Foreground, Matthew Wong in the UC Davis Arboretum. Background, UC Davis, King Hall School of Law.

I am a Northern California native and recent, first generation graduate from the UC Davis School of Law. I focused my studies on business law (especially securities) and tax law. I am most interested in practicing in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, but I am also considering the Bay Area as a whole and Sacramento.

Most recently, I was a Research Assistant for Professor Menesh Patel, with a focus on SEC Rule 10b-5 issues. Previously, I was a remote intern for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. as a part of the Division of Enforcement, assisting an investigative team. The prior summer, I worked as a legal intern doing regulatory and compliance research for a large vertically integrated California cannabis company, Glass House Brands. The previous summer, I worked as a research assistant for Professor Shayak Sarkar, citation checking, proofing, and researching for draft law review articles, especially concerning consumer protection laws.

Prior to law school, I worked as a paralegal and legal assistant for a boutique litigation firm in San Francisco, Cannata, O’Toole, Fickes & Olson, gaining broad experience with discovery, law and motion, and trial practice. I was inspired to pursue a legal career after a judicial externship at the San Francisco Superior Court, Civil Division, observing complex civil litigation trials. This externship program was a part of the Political Science department at San Francisco State University, where I received my undergraduate degree in 2018, a B.A. in Philosophy and Law, Minor in Political Science.
